Alexander Zverev's Roland Garros title hopes hung by a thread on Saturday, but the German battled back from the brink of defeat to reach the last 16 of the French Open. Zverev, the third seed, dropped the opening two sets to Dutch qualifier Tallon Griekspoor before showing his fighting spirit to come through in five sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-2.
The match was a rollercoaster of emotions for Zverev, who looked completely out of sorts in the first set but gradually found his rhythm as the match progressed. Griekspoor, ranked 126th in the world, played with freedom and confidence, but Zverev's experience and class eventually proved too much.
Zverev will now face Karen Khachanov in the fourth round, while Griekspoor can be proud of his performance in his first-ever Grand Slam main draw.
